Choosing a college can prove stressful. Once the hard part of the process is over, you’ve earned the right to relax and celebrate. Many people have invested in you to get you to college, and they’ll want to know where you’re heading next year.

To capture the unique joy of this moment, many students prefer to announce their college decision in fun ways. Below, we spotlight nine of the best ways to share your choice with the most important people in your life.

1. Design a Custom College Cake

A college decision is cause for celebration, and nothing marks an occasion like a custom cake. To celebrate your choice, you can bake or order a cake with your school’s logo or name. Then, bring friends and family together to share the cake and toast to your future.

If you don’t bake the cake yourself, you can likely find a local cake shop. You can also order cakes from grocery stores like Kroger and Publix.

2. Post a Selfie Wearing Your College’s Shirt

A college T-shirt, crewneck sweatshirt, or hoodie is a wardrobe essential for any future college student. To announce your decision, you can post a selfie wearing your college’s shirt on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms.

For a more low-key approach, you can also just send this picture to close friends and family so they know where you’re headed this fall.

3. Make It Colorful With a Balloon Pop or Smoke Sticks

You’ve probably seen social media posts of gender-reveal parties where couples announce the gender of their baby through traditional blue/pink smoke or colors within balloons. You can create a similarly colorful visual with the colors of your college.

Consider narrowing your list to two or three schools, inviting friends and family over, and revealing your decision through your chosen school’s colors.

4. Order a Balloon Bouquet

Consider ordering a balloon bouquet of either your chosen school’s acronym or its colors. You can pair these balloons with a custom cake to host a college reveal party at your home. You can also take a picture of the bouquet to post on social media and announce your decision.

5. Post a Picture of Your School’s Gear

If you prefer not to post a selfie wearing your school’s T-shirt to Instagram or Facebook, you can instead post a picture of some relevant gear. For example, you might upload a picture of a coffee mug, a hat, a jersey, a stuffed animal, or anything else that bears your chosen school’s name or logo.

If you’re feeling super creative, you could also make this into a video or a Boomerang, turning the mug around to reveal the school’s logo.

6. Get Creative With a TikTok Reveal Video

You can also announce your college decision through a TikTok video. For example, you can put different schools’ logos at the bottom corner of the screen and walk or dance toward the logo of your chosen school.

TikTok trends are constantly changing, but there are sure to be ways to fit your college decision into a video for the platform.

7. Recreate a Signing Day Video at Home

You don’t have to be a Division I athlete to create a signing day video for your chosen college. You can create a similar video at home. Simply lay out a few different hats on your kitchen table, then choose and put on the hat of the school you’ll attend in the fall.

8. Post School Graphics on Your Social Accounts

Some schools provide official school graphics to post on your social media accounts once you decide to commit. These graphics usually include an accompanying hashtag, which can help incoming members of a school’s class find each other and connect through social media.

Some athletes also post pictures with multiple school graphics or logos as they narrow down their list. You can imitate these posts with your college choice.

9. Keep It Low-Key With Phone and Video Calls

Remember that you’re under no obligation to announce your college decision in a creative way. You can simply call or FaceTime the important people in your life and let them know about your decision one-on-one.

Your college decision is ultimately a personal choice. The way you announce it should reflect your personality as well. If balloons, social media, and big parties don’t appeal to you, there’s no need to force yourself to do something you don’t want to do.
