By Iris Stone Posted November, 2014 If you’re interested in studying healthcare, you don’t have to limit yourself to universities in the United States. Although the U.S. is known for housing some of the world’s best schools, Europe is also a hub of scholastic activity. If you have considered studying abroad for a few weeks, a few months, as part of an exchange program, or even pursuing an entire degree overseas, it is worth doing the research to find the best school for you. Thankfully, we have already done all the footwork by compiling recent data from sources like the QS World Rankings and UNISTATS. Methodology We started with more than 170 top European universities, as listed on the QS World Rankings site, and then collected data on seven points: percentage of international students, percentage of international faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, faculty value in the life sciences/medicine, university reputation with employers, and number of medical programs available to bachelor’s degree students. For universities in the United Kingdom, we took advantage of data on the UNISTATS website by also ranking them according to the average student satisfaction in courses related to the health sciences and percentage of health sciences students employed/furthering their education within six months of graduation. Note that if this data was not available for schools, it did not help or hurt their outcome in our ranking. After equally weighting all categories, we ended up with the following list of 30 European universities. You may be excited to see that in many cases (at least compared to U.S. private schools) it is less expensive to attend school overseas. You will also find links to the schools’ websites, all of which are in English. Happy reading, and if it works out, bon voyage!
