Nurse Practitioner Programs in Michigan

Davenport University offers MSN nurse practitioner programs with two concentration options: family nurse practitioner and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Both pathways hold accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and feature capstone projects and extensive clinical components.

Davenport’s programs offer full-time and part-time schedules and can be completed entirely online, except for the clinical segments.

The University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) offers CCNE-accredited DNP pathways for both BSN and MSN graduates. The BSN-to-DNP features 750 clinical hours and allows you to exit after completing the MSN requirements.

The post-master’s DNP program features an optional six-credit organizational leadership bridge for those not planning to pursue APRN licensure. You can study part-time or full-time, and UDM offers a post-FNP emergency nurse practitioner certificate if you wish to continue your education.

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) offers four NP pathways, including two MSN programs, a BSN-to-DNP, and an MSN-to-DNP program. The CCNE-accredited DNP programs feature a hybrid model, with many online classes, while assessments and simulations run on campus.

The MSN programs are offered on campus and feature 750 clinical hours and family nurse practitioner and adult-gerontology family nurse practitioner specializations. After graduation, students can continue their education in the DNP program.

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) has two nurse practitioner programs, including an MSN-to-DNP and a BSN-to-DNP with six emphasis options. The programs run in a hybrid format that combines online classes with 450-1,000 hours worth of clinical experiences and 1-2 visits to the campus simulation center each semester.

GSVU’s DNP programs hold CCNE accreditation and can be completed in 2-3 years via full-time study, though part-time study options are available.

Madonna University offers three CCNE-accredited nurse practitioner degree types and four specialization options. Madonna runs a campus-based MSN-NP, a hybrid BSN-to-DNP, and fully online MSN-to-DNP programs. You can also choose between full-time and part-time schedules.

In addition to coursework, you complete up to 960 hours of direct care for patients in various outpatient sites. If you decide to add to your specialization later, Madonna offers post-MSN certificate programs in five specialization areas.

The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (U-M) offers CCNE-accredited MSN and BSN-to-DNP programs with five specialization options for aspiring nurse practitioners. In the DNP programs, you can choose between full-time and part-time schedules and enjoy a hybrid format that fits around your schedule.

U-M requires students to attend at least one campus lecture each month. Some MSN programs offer online options featuring asynchronous classes and in-person clinical requirements.

At Michigan State University (MSU), you can pursue a CCNE-accredited BSN-to-DNP program in a hybrid format. Each degree track features three specialization options and full-time and part-time schedules.

Most MSU classes run online, but the school requires you to visit campus about 4-5 times each semester. The DNP programs include 45 assessment hours, more than 750 direct care clinical hours, and nearly 250 practice project hours.

Northern Michigan University (NMU) offers three degree options for aspiring family nurse practitioners, including BSN and MSN-to-DNP programs. Each of these paths is a hybrid model, with mandatory on-campus sessions at the beginning and end of the program.

The programs include up to 1,000 hours of supervised clinical experience plus a substantial scholarly project. NMU also offers an MSN program with a similar delivery format but fewer clinical hours.

Aspiring nurse practitioners can choose from two CCNE-accredited NP degrees at Oakland University (OU), an MSN and an MSN-to-DNP. The MSN-to-DNP program features online courses that cover theory, policy, leadership, and informatics.

The program includes a 1,000-hour clinical component and full-time and part-time scheduling options. OU’s MSN program offers three specializations: an online or hybrid format and full-time and part-time study schedules.

Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) offers two CCNE-accredited DNP programs for BSN and MSN students. The hybrid BSN-to-DNP program features online courses and evening campus-based classes, plus a 1,080-hour clinical component.

In this program, you can also choose between part-time and full-time schedules. The full-time MSN-to-DNP features online courses and a 1,000-hour clinical component. Both programs include a final DNP project and practical immersion as well.

Spring Arbor University (SAU) runs a CCNE-accredited MSN-to-DNP program, plus several MSN programs for BSN graduates and RNs. The DNP program features online courses and up to 1,000 clinical hours. You can complete the entire program in about 20 months.

The online MSN programs offer four specialization options and feature seven-week courses with one-week breaks in between. SAU also offers post-master’s FNP certificate programs.

Wayne State University (WSU) runs a CCNE-accredited DNP program with seven concentration options and an MSN program with four NP specializations. The DNP programs offer pathways for BSN and MSN graduates with and without NP certification and licensure.

Each track includes a minimum of 1,000 clinical hours and an extensive DNP final project. In addition to the DNP and MSN degrees, WSU offers post-master’s certificates in several specialty areas.
