  • California Miramar University is opening a campus in San Jose this fall.
  • The for-profit university is operated by SP Jain Global Business Management and has campuses in San Diego and Los Angeles.
  • The campus will offer a bachelor’s degree in data science and business management and a master’s degree in AI.

San Jose will welcome a new university in the fall, bolstering the city’s downtown area after taking a rough hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.

California Miramar University, a private, for-profit university operated by SP Jain Global Business Management, signed a 10-year lease for a nearly 21,000-square-foot, two-story building in the city’s SoFA District, according to reporting from The Real Deal.

SP Jain Global Business Management operates several campuses worldwide, including in Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, and Sydney.

The university will offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees in subjects including data, business, and artificial intelligence (AI). Tuition varies depending on degree type and the time it takes to complete the degree.

According to the university, a two-year master of business administration degree program would cost $585 per credit, or $22,815 overall, while a four-year bachelor of business administration degree program would be $406 per credit, or $48,720 total.

This will be the university’s third campus, alongside its main campus in San Diego and in-residence site in Los Angeles.

The new location will be able to accommodate up to 1,000 students, according to Samarth Jain, director of business development, North America at SP Jain School of Global Management. Along with classrooms, the new location will have learning commons, a library, a tiered lecture hall, and computer labs, according to The Real Deal.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said the city is expediting the permitting process for the site and hopes to facilitate even more new companies opening their doors in San Jose.

“California Miramar University means hundreds of new students living, studying, and supporting businesses in our city’s core, breathing life back into the heart of San Jose,” Mahan said in reporting by the East Bay Times.
