  • College students with a .edu email address can have access to Google’s suite of artificial intelligence (AI) tools through spring 2026 if they sign up before June 30, 2025.
  • Along with video, text, and research assistant AIs, students can get 2 terabytes of cloud storage for free.
  • OpenAI also recently announced that students can access ChatGPT Plus for two months if they sign up with a .edu address through May 2025.

Google is giving all college students in the U.S. access to its artificial intelligence (AI) services like Gemini and Veo 2 on top of 2 terabytes of storage for the rest of this school year and the next one.

Google announced April 17 that students can access Gemini Advanced’s host of AI tools through spring 2026 if they sign up before June 30, 2025.

Students need to provide a .edu email address and reverify that address before the next school year begins.

Google’s announcement comes on the heels of OpenAI’s announcement that its ChatGPT Plus will be free for students with a .edu email for two months. Students can access this promotion through May 2025 to help with finals season.

What Students Get in Google’s Promotion

Google offers free access to nine tools to help students study, form ideas, and store files and data for school and their personal lives.

Gemini Advanced

The large language model allows students to upload documents, study, ask questions, and learn coding skills.

Gemini Canvas

Canvas is an interactive workspace where students can draft ideas, code, create study guides and quizzes, experiment with a physics particle, play with a 3D planet generator, create music with a synthesizer, prototype a management system, and more.

Gemini Deep Research

Students can use Deep Research to create reports based on hundreds of websites the AI browses through. It can make a multi-point research plan and also creates audio reports.

Gemini Live

Students can have an out-loud conversation with Gemini Live and show it pictures, videos, files, and other media in real time.

NotebookLM

This personalized AI research assistant is designed to provide clear citations for answers and exact quotes from sources. Students can upload PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs, and Google Slides to have NotebookLM summarize and connect topics across resources.

Veo 2

Veo 2 generates AI videos based on written prompts.

Whisk

This experimental AI image and video generator can mix text and image prompts and animate creations.

Gemini in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Students can access Gemini within Google’s suite of tools to make suggestions and corrections and offer help.

2 Terabytes of Storage

Students can store their Google Drive suite, files, photos, high-definition videos, and more in the cloud.
