The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has debuted a new sports leadership and management program intended to provide UCLA students with access to the sports industry.
The UCLA Sports Leadership and Management Program will be housed in the UCLA Anderson School of Management’s Center for Media, Entertainment & Sports and directed by UCLA alum and Nike executive Andy Campion.
It will offer a sports leadership and management specialization for master of business administration (MBA) students, as well as courses for UCLA undergraduates and student-athletes interested in the global business of sports.
The program will also have strategic partnerships with local and international sports organizations including Los Angeles professional sports teams, the Real Madrid football club, and the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics organizing committee (LA28), on which Campion also serves.
We could not ask for better partners in the creation of this innovative new program than the Campions,
UCLA Anderson’s Dean Tony Bernardo said in a press release. Together, we aim to build an unparalleled program that will benefit not only our students but also our hometown of Los Angeles and the global sports and entertainment communities.
Additionally, the program is slated to support faculty research, host events, and provide students with opportunities to get hands-on experiences within the sports industry.
Coursework and program initiatives are planned for a spring 2024 rollout for both UCLA graduate and undergraduate students.
The ecosystem of sports is massive, growing and dynamic, while also serving as an inspiring and unifying cultural force,
Campion said in the release.
Our ambition is that this program will connect UCLA’s diverse and talented students, on a broad scale, to the economic opportunity and potential for social impact offered by a career in the business of sports.
The new program announcement comes as UCLA is set to join the Big Ten Conference this summer, elevating the university’s athletic exposure and raking in huge profits from television networks and streaming services.
